In medical imaging, Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) are computers or networks dedicated to the storage, retrieval, distribution and presentation of images. The medical images are stored in an independent format. The most common format for image storage is DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine).
In the peerVue Project we are using the product DICOM Objects, a collection of automation objects designed to assist the development of DICOM conformant applications for medical imaging.DICOM Objects were the product from Medical Connections Ltd. We are using the com/ActiveX version and the .NET version See the viewer that is using the activex version
Customized Fetcher is there for retrieving the studies from the PACS. The fetching process is made possible with the PDQ Service (it is a window service which fetches the data in specific periodic intervals).
In the peerVue project we can customize the interval for fetching the data from the PACS through the interface tab Scheduler. See the screen shot of that. Here in the scheduler we can set the Initial Start Date and Query time interval to retrieve data from the available PACS.
Assigner assigns the cases to users in the selected Space which are retrieved from the PACS through the Fetcher Process.PDQ Service is used for the Assigning process also. The Customized assigning process helps us to assign the cases to the users in the Space separately. Several options are there in the settings section of the Assigner. The screenshot of the Assigner is given below. The assigning of the cases to the users in the group is done according to the conditions and options given in the settings of the Space wizard settings
The goals of the application are to provide maximum user interface flexibility, be extensible to new technology developed for brachytherapy and be adaptable to new applications of brachytherapy. In order to achieve the needed flexibility to accommodate both LDR and HDR radiation brachytherapy, it is essential that the application has data import/export capability that is compatible for use with imaging systems and treatment planning systems which adhere to the DICOM-RT standard - One of the first extensions was applied to radiation therapy and is known as DICOM-RT.
The Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standard is now widely implemented in radiology as the standard for diagnostic imaging. It has also been extended for use in various sub-specialties.
In addition to the protocol used in the DICOM standard, seven DICOM-RT objects—namely RT Image, RT Structure Set, RT Plan, RT Dose, RT Beams Treatment Record, RT Brachy Treatment Record and RT Treatment Summary Record—have been created, each with a well-defined data model.
The data models set the standard for integration of radiation therapy information for an electronic patient record and would facilitate the interoperability of different radiation therapy systems, thus making possible the sharing of information from different systems.
Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) initiative published the Teaching File and Clinical Trial Export (TCE) integration profile. The IHE TCE profile describes a method for using existing standards to simplify the export of key medical images for education, research, and publication. This helps in the retrieval of images for a typical teaching file application within a TCE compliant PACS module and the export of images, independent of TCE compliance of the PACS, to a typical teaching file application; and the TCE-compliant transfer of images for publication.
